Looking for some Halloween fun? Want to learn more about ghosts and spirits? Make a day of it in Harper’s Ferry, WVA. Harper’s Ferry is one of the most actively haunted areas in the country. This is your chance to meet and work with a group that has had great results in communicating with the resident spirits of Harper’s Ferry. Before you arrive, be sure to sign up for the Ghost Tour of Harper’s Ferry, followed by a meeting at Spirit Talks. Full details are included below.

Arrive in time for lunch and have an enjoyable meal at The Armory Pub or The Quartermaster Tavern! Both places ARE HAUNTED by the shades of Civil War soldiers. One site has the Union spirits and the other features Confederate ghosts. Can you figure out which is which? When you have reservations for the Ghost Tours and Spirit Walks, you get an extra bonus of 10% off the price of your meal. Menus include: appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, light entrees, Craft beers, and a nice wine selection. Both establishments feature casual, full service dining for the whole family.

Meet for the Ghost Tour outside the Swiss Miss on Potomac Street. Ghost Tours take place at 8:00 pm every Friday evening and at 6:30 pm, 7:00 pm, 7:30 pm, and 8:00 pm on Saturdays. All 8:00 pm Ghost Tours, due to their popularity, require advance reservations. Please check with www.harpersferryghost.20m.com or call 304-725-8019 to check availability and to make your reservations. Children are welcome on the tours. If you want to combine the Ghost Tour with Spirit Talks, email GHOST@kist.org or call 202-730-9845 and leave a message with your contact information and the date and time you would like, along with the number of people in your party. The total cost is $25 per person, which includes the one hour Ghost Tour, followed by Spirit Talks.

Spirit Talks, guided by an experienced “sensitive,” is an exploration into communication with some of the colorful personalities that haunt this historic area. Spirit Talks takes place in a 150 year old building and your guide has communicated and worked with the spirits many times over the years. If the spirits are talkative, participants will have an opportunity to ask questions directly and communicate personally with spirits from long ago. There may also be an opportunity to use some unique equipment featured in paranormal investigations. Spirit Talks meets at 9:00 pm at The Quartermaster Tavern. Please enter through the rear, next to the General Store on Potomac Street, across from the main train station driveway. Reservations are a must to guarantee your spot at Spirit Talks.

An ideal day in Harper’s Ferry would be to arrive early, enjoy lunch, tour the town, and then take an early Ghost Tour, followed by dinner or a snack at The Quartermaster Tavern, which serves food until 8:00 pm. After eating, come downstairs to join Spirit Talks at 9:00 pm. Show a copy of your email reservation and you’ll receive a 10% meal discount.

Harper’s Ferry is an easy, economical drive from the DC metro area and the leaves are beautiful this time of year. You might want to make these events part of your own personal Halloween traditions, so grab your friends and family and head to West Virginia this weekend.
